Feast Week

Feast Week 2021 will run between July 3rd and 11th. Following the government’s announcement about the extension of Step 3 lockdown these Feast Week events are currently still planned to go ahead, but all under review to meet the Step 3 covid rules but a number have had to be cancelled or postponed.

ALL WEEK VILLAGE-WIDE

The HI Doughnut Awards, Green Canopy and Loyalty Card have been

Extended by one week to 18 July

HI DOUGHNUT AWARDS

Our village Feast has always provided an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for the best of our community. As we come out of lockdown, the Parish Council, Council of Churches and HI Friends, who came together to form our street network during the pandemic, would like to launch the HI Doughnut Awards. A chance to show your appreciation for those who have worked tirelessly to improve the social foundation or environmental sustainability of our villages. We hope many of you will share your lockdown stories here. Any questions to info@histonfeast.co.uk

HI TREES presents HI GREEN CANOPY

The HI Trees group is launching its Green Canopy survey, part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Jubilee project. We’d like you to tell us where trees could be planted. You don’t need to own the land to make a suggestion here. We’ll compile all the ideas, make a prioritised list, seek landowners’ permission and then fund-raise to plant the trees. Together over the next few years, we’ll create a green canopy over Histon and Impington.

For more information see our article in Hisimp News, or email Dan Mace at info@hitrees.org.uk

A very different village Feast

A few months ago, a Rosie Lee, an MSc student and resident in our village reached out to our community for help on her project around the importance of Neighbourhoods.  As a result of her post on HI People many of our community generously came together to share their talents, knowledge and innovative projects that highlighted many of the skills we have in this village.

Rosie has taken the time to record the outcome of her project and the journey it took to fruition which provides a story of community resilience and coming together during the COVID pandemic.  This is a real testament to Histon & Impington as we celebrate ‘A very different village Feast.’

Rosie is reaching a point where she would like to share the outcome of her project so that members of the community can contribute and add to the very special website she has created.  There is more we can all do to contribute and highlight just what our community means to each of us.  This may be especially important as we move towards a very special jubilee year, a year when we may wish to record the progress, history and innovation in Histon & Impington today.  Please contact rosiebethlee@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like to contribute

You can watch Rosie’s presentation here Feast week presentation

Histon and Impington Feast 2021 – Loyalty and Safety

We’ve been on a rollercoaster ride since the Feast AGM in January!  A fabulous organising committee has put together a wealth of Feast Week events.  Until recently, we had planned some large scale gatherings and opportunities for the community to come together.  But for reasons we are all aware of, these have been cancelled?  Or have they?

We discussed the difference between cancelled and postponed because the concerts, the indoor events, the market will all be run again.  Maybe in Feast Week 2022, maybe sooner?  We are looking at options and will keep the community informed.  Safety in these final weeks of lockdown is paramount but there is an end in sight.

So Feast Week 2021 will still celebrate the villages, the community and it’s businesses.

Summer Feast Loyalty Card
Loyalty is more important than ever in these times.  We’ve been trying to organise a few feel-good events, but local business has had to adapt beyond recognition in many ways this year.  The Feast Loyalty Card asks you to shop and use local businesses in Feast Week to show your loyalty, with the chance to win prizes for completing the card.  We thank the 26 local businesses for getting involved and offering profits made on special products to Feast Funds and a range of prizes.  Due to the number of prizes available, the number of purchases needed on the Loyalty Card to enter the Prize Draw has also been reduced from 10 to 5! HI Green Canopy
Feeding into a national initiative, this is a chance to plant new trees in our community. See more

HI Doughnut Awards
A chance to celebrate and recognise people who have altered the social foundation or environment of our villages, in collaboration with the Parish Council, Council of Churches and HI Friends.    All 5 group awards have been funded by our Beer Festival Committee  who unanimously voted to fund the awards and all group award winners will nominate Local charities or groups to receive the money they have won. See more

A Chance to Learn
With a range of talks covering the Green Canopy, the impacts of flooding, the excavation of a Spitfire in the Fens, guided walks and quizzes, there are many opportunities to get involved this year.  This website is up to date with events and links throughout the week so keep checking.

Thanks
This year the committee have been amazing, bursting with ideas and pushing ahead with the organisation of events that have altered the shape of Feast Week.  This has allowed us to celebrate the community and reflect on the last 18 months.  The committee members deserve huge thanks for having the vision to plan and the integrity to respect the current situation.

Please join in with Feast Week 2021 – these events are for our villages, our businesses and our community.
